Water and Thirst

You are the push and pull of waves
Over the sands of the beach,
Taking and giving at your own will
But always beautiful.

You are the melody of moving water,
Your voice smooth and cool and soothing.
When you speak, my heart responds
With the sound of the ocean.

You are the joy of a first successfully skipped rock,
Ripples pooling outwards from a small victory
That means so much.
Without doing anything, you have won my heart.

You are relief against my lips,
Sliding down my throat and into my heart,
Where you've settled since
And never left.

In a storm over the sea, you are raw power
And fearsome beauty;
You can break the backs of ships without a thought.
But if it was for your sake, I wouldn't mind drowning.
